Prescription Orthotics and Arch Supports
Andrew Wilson-Smith ND DO is our lower leg bio-mechanic specialist with a particular interest in running & sports injuries, focusing on the hip and knee and in gait assessment.
Andrew has been prescribing prescription orthotics for 30 years, working closely with Langer bio-mechanics Group during this period as manufacturers of orthotic devices. http://langergrp.com.
Orthotics are orthopaedic devices designed to treat or adjust various biomechanical foot disorders. Prescription corrective orthotics are custom-made devices. These are prescribed after a biomechanics assessment. Measuring up involves a combination of the assessment and a surface scan of the feet with a medical 3D laser scanner. The scan, along with a gait analysis will show the lab where the misalignments are. Specialists at Langer Biomechanics laboratory can then create a orthotics to correct the misalignments with compensation and stabilisation techniques. The finished orthotic is then placed in the patient’s shoe and helps to keep the foot and leg correctly aligned.
